Government boosts power for increased water pumping into La Vigía canal

Santo Domingo.- To ensure a steady water supply for Dominican producers, INDHRI brigades have constructed dams using sandbags to contain the liquid and facilitate pumping towards the La Vigía canal. These pumps have the capacity to deliver one cubic meter of water per minute, equivalent to approximately 16,500 gallons. Juan Carlos Nova, the Operations Director at INDHRI, emphasized that “for 24 hours, water is being supplied to all producers, ensuring continuous water access for agricultural production during this period.”

Furthermore, Nova specified that they have rehabilitated a 3.5-kilometer stretch from La Vieja Aduana to the interconnection point, where part of the water flow is redirected to the Masacre River to ensure a sufficient supply to the Veterano Cero and Uno dams, as well as the Don Pedro dam.

These pumping efforts are benefiting at least 200 agricultural producers in Dajabón and Montecristi, providing them with irrigation water.

Moreover, authorities have noted that the three pumps, operational round-the-clock, collectively consume about 300 gallons of diesel per day. Plans are underway to eventually replace these temporary pumps with electronic ones.

Whoaaaa, way off. One cubit meter is only 264 US gallons. My Intex above-ground swimming pool pump does 125 gal/min. so two of these could do the job. I can’t believe they’re burning that much diesel for so little flow. Something must be wrong with these numbers.
