Government to establish migration offices in every province

Espaillat, DR.- The Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Andrés Bautista, announced that the government will set up General Directorate of Migration (DGM) offices in each province to strengthen immigration control and ensure compliance with the law, as part of President Luis Abinader’s ongoing efforts. Speaking at an event in Moca, Bautista highlighted that this initiative aligns with the president’s goal to implement new immigration measures while upholding fundamental rights.

The new offices will help streamline the deportation process and minimize the risk of abuses, ensuring respect for the human rights of deportees. Each office will oversee the coordination of migration processes within its province, promoting more orderly procedures.

Bautista also emphasized that the Dominican Republic has made significant efforts to manage the Haitian migration crisis, asserting that no one has the moral authority to criticize the country’s approach.

This addition to the migracion bureacracy may work to thwart abuses of people holding proper documents. There is no mention of offices being placed at or near the border, offices that could filter traffic to and from the border, nor any reference to seal leaks at the border.

“offices in each province to strengthen immigration control and ensure compliance”. One can reasonably conclude that this would include provinces near the border.
