MIT professor to present nuclear energy as key to Dominican Republic’s energy future

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Association of the Electrical Industry (ADIE) and the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (Intec) will host Professor Jacopo Buongiorno from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as the keynote speaker at the upcoming Energy Forum on October 10, 2024, at the El Embajador Hotel.

Professor Buongiorno, a prominent figure in nuclear engineering and director of Science and Technology at MIT’s Nuclear Reactor Laboratory, will discuss the role of nuclear energy in reducing carbon emissions globally. His presentation will focus on how nuclear energy can offer a sustainable and secure alternative for the Dominican Republic’s electricity sector, aligning with the country’s goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Manuel Cabral, Executive Vice President of ADIE, emphasized the significance of Buongiorno’s participation, stating that his expertise provides a unique perspective on integrating clean and efficient energy solutions into the local energy matrix. The forum will also include panel discussions with national experts on generation, transmission, and energy transition, offering insights into shaping a more sustainable energy future for the Dominican Republic.
