Dr. Santiago Hazim urges support for Fiscal Modernization Bill to boost primary health care
Santo Domingo.- Dr. Santiago Hazim called on all sectors in the Dominican Republic to back the Fiscal Modernization Bill and contribute ideas that promote national development. He emphasized that while there is no perfect time for implementing reforms, delaying them has led to deteriorating public services and a reduced quality of life.
A key component of the bill, according to Hazim, is the strengthening of Primary Health Care, which would receive a monthly investment of over RD$10,000 million. This funding aims to enhance disease prevention and improve the physical, emotional, and social well-being of the population. Hazim highlighted that a healthier, better-educated society is crucial for national development.
Investing in primary care, he noted, will also reduce health disparities in rural and underserved areas by improving access to services. By focusing on prevention, including vaccination programs and health education, the initiative will help lower the incidence of chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension. Hazim concluded that this approach will not only enhance public health but also cut long-term health costs by minimizing severe complications and reducing unnecessary hospitalizations.
