JCE updates political parties on new ID card project

Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) held a meeting with political party delegates to present the progress of its project to renew the national Identity and Electoral Card. Led by the National Director of Identification Cards, Américo Rodríguez, the technical commission outlined the project’s background, current ID card issues, and new security features to be incorporated into the updated document.

Rodríguez emphasized that the JCE is committed to modernizing the ID card’s design and production in line with international standards, incorporating enhanced security elements and leveraging the latest technology. The new ID card will be made from thermoplastic polycarbonate, include a grayscale photo, and feature an electronic chip for identification.

The meeting was attended by key JCE directors and political representatives, who expressed appreciation for being consulted. They requested access to the documentation and proposed a follow-up meeting within 10 days to further discuss the project’s developments and the ongoing public tender process.
