Thirty power generation projects in the country

Santo DomingoThe Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, said that 30 electricity generation projects are being developed that will inject 3,200 megawatts into the networks in these four years to cover the energy demand that the country is registering due to economic growth and high temperatures.

Santos spoke while participating in the panel “Electricity Generation and Transmission,” organized by the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (Intec) and the Asociación Dominicana de la Industria Eléctrica (ADIE), in which he detailed that of these projects, 2,200 megawatts are from thermal energy and another 1,000 megawatts from renewable sources.

He assured that injecting clean sources into the networks, in addition to diversifying the energy matrix, helps the country decarbonize the economy with environmentally friendly energy.

He indicated that electricity demand increased by 6.8% in 2023 and will grow by 8.3% in 2024, so the Government continues to support new generation projects to meet the growing demand.

He announced that US$450 million will be invested in electricity transmission in the coming years.
