Raquel Peña launches first 41 student transport routes in Santiago
Santiago, DR.- Vice President Raquel Peña inaugurated the National Student Transportation System (TRAE) in Santiago, marking its expansion to 22 provinces. During the ceremony, 150 electric school buses were delivered, with 41 routes starting on Monday, October 14. The program aims to provide free, supervised transportation to ensure students’ safe and timely arrival at school, while also easing financial burdens on families.
Peña emphasized that the TRAE system directly improves academic performance and represents a significant step in transforming the educational system. In just under two years, TRAE has already transported more than 13.3 million students nationwide.
The buses, equipped with GPS, cameras, and safety features, will serve over 160,000 students in Santiago’s municipalities. An additional 84 diesel buses will later join the fleet, bringing the total to 234 vehicles. TRAE is also expanding to other provinces, including Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, and La Vega.
