Dominican Republic-US open skies agreement set to launch in 2025
Santo Domingo.- Héctor Porcella, president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), announced that the Open Skies agreement between the Dominican Republic and the United States is expected to take effect early next year. This comes after the agreement’s validation by the Constitutional Court and the National Congress. The agreement, in negotiation for over 25 years, will promote tourism and trade, with the Dominican Republic being one of the last Latin American countries without such an agreement with the US. It is a significant achievement under the leadership of President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado, aiming to enhance air connectivity and lift restrictions on Dominican-registered airlines flying to US destinations.

I don’t understand why it took so long but then again it’s DR political machinery where corruption rules. I sincerely hope that Dominican airlines is responsible and consumer and customer friendly. Definitely it needs to build trust amongst us Dominicans for it to thrive. Good luck…it’s definitely needed
I am so happy that finaly after so many years of inactivity due to politics that this will become the law of the land. I am married to a dominican lady since 2020. the prices i pay to get home are ridiculous. I am just sad it took so long. I always fly to santiago and i live with my family in La vega
It took so long because it is the Dominican way of doing business. There are nationalists in and around government who are strongly opposed to the US having any good interest, real or imagined, invading the sovereignty of the country, even if it benefitted the country.
