Adecor voices concern over Tax Reform’s impact on the Gastronomy Industry

Santo Domingo.- The Association of Casual Dining and Fast Food Establishments (Adecor) expressed concerns over the potential impact of the proposed tax reform on the restaurant industry, warning of significant increases in operating costs, including expenses on inputs, salaries, and electricity. Adecor President Luis Etienne Sánchez emphasized that the reform could reduce middle-class incomes by 20%, directly affecting customer frequency, especially during workdays when restaurants cater to employees seeking affordable lunch options.

Sánchez also pointed out that formal restaurants already face unfair competition from the informal sector, which hampers job creation and tax compliance. He urged for tax modernization that encourages business formalization and fosters a fair environment for all industry players rather than penalizing formal establishments.

Adecor called for a thorough evaluation of the reform’s impact on the restaurant sector, aiming to protect formal businesses while supporting the country’s economic growth.
