CRD asks Abinader to prioritize construction of Aerodrome in San Francisco de Macorís

Santo Domingo.- The Regional Development Council (CRD) has called on President Luis Abinader to prioritize constructing the Northeast Multiple Aerodrome in San Francisco de Macorís. The project aims to drive territorial development across provinces like Duarte, Hermanas Mirabal, La Vega, and others, enhancing the region’s agro-industrial, technological, and economic growth.

The CRD emphasized the aerodrome’s importance in improving connectivity, bolstering rural living conditions, and optimizing the operations of public services, tourism, and commerce. The project, with an estimated cost of RD$80 million, will be funded by passenger payments managed by the Airport Department, without relying on the National Budget. Local businesses have also pledged support for essential collateral works to ensure the terminal’s functionality.

Additionally, the CRD proposed the construction of heliports in all municipalities within the region and eventually nationwide to improve emergency responses and daily activities. The aerodrome project, approved by presidential decree years ago, awaits activation by President Abinader, with foreign and local investors offering collaborative proposals submitted to the National Palace.
