Dominican Republic and Colombia collaborate on Gravimetric Network for hydrocarbon exploration
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) announced its collaboration with Colombia to establish a National Gravimetric Network aimed at enhancing the country’s geophysical knowledge of terrestrial basins with hydrocarbon potential. The initiative involves the installation of 50 gravimetric stations across the Dominican Republic, strategically placed in sedimentary basins that are key for hydrocarbon exploration.
The project has already involved virtual workshops on gravimetry, geodesy, and cartography, led by experts from Colombia’s Agustín Codazzi Geographic Institute (IGAC). These workshops have trained Dominican officials, universities, and civil society members in geosciences. The project is part of ongoing efforts by the Dominican government, with international support from IGAC and Colombia’s Presidential Agency for International Cooperation (APC).
