Danilo Díaz criticizes immigration policy following hospital incident in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- Danilo Díaz, national deputy and member of the Dominican Liberation Party’s Political Committee, criticized the government for its handling of immigration issues following an incident at the Doctor Darío Contreras Hospital, where Haitian nationals allegedly assaulted doctors and nurses. Díaz described the event as unprecedented and indicative of broader immigration control failures affecting daily life in the Dominican Republic.

The congressman expressed concern over the public’s growing frustration, highlighting challenges Dominicans face in accessing healthcare. He noted that the high influx of Haitian nationals into public hospitals has strained the system, making it difficult for locals to receive proper medical attention.

Díaz also criticized the government’s approach to mass repatriations, stating that these measures have proven ineffective in addressing the issue. He called for stronger immigration control to prevent further incidents and ensure better access to healthcare for Dominican citizens.

Why is this a surprise. You created this mess. Sooner or later you will have an uprising. Your corruption is destroying the Dr.

There has been no information published about what triggered the assault at the hospital. It could be reasoned the information is being willfully withheld to protect something, somebody thinks the public should not know the truth. There is more to this story.

You mentioned the same comment in the original post 2 days ago, and it’s a valid concern.

Safe to assume a few scenarios:

1) No med insurance and/or cash to pay for services
2) Upon asking for identification, perhaps none produced or a failure to produce due to no legal identification in the country
3) The bigger question is, why did the suspect have a knife with him? That’s a signal for premeditation.

Details missing, yes, but unfortunately a common scenario involving Haitians.
