4.1 magnitude earthquake shakes northern Santiago
Santiago, DR.- A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Jamao al Norte in the Cordillera Septentrional region, northeast of Santiago de los Caballeros, early Monday morning. Occurring at 5:12 a.m. at a depth of 17.3 miles, the tremor was felt across much of the Cibao region, including La Vega, Río San Juan, Sosúa, and Puerto Plata. No physical or material damage has been reported.
The Dominican Republic, located on the seismically active island of Hispaniola, experiences frequent tremors due to a network of over a dozen geological faults crossing the region and nearby marine areas. The seismic activity underscores the island’s vulnerability to potential earthquakes.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, reminding residents to stay prepared in this high-risk zone, though no immediate aftershocks or threats have been reported.
