San Pedro de Macorís.- The San Pedro de Macorís boardwalk is set for its official inauguration, pending the return of Tourism Minister David Collado from the United States and coordination with President Luis Abinader. The RD$200 million project spans 1.84 kilometers and includes nine vendor modules, each equipped with two booths, transforming local vendors into entrepreneurs with modern facilities.

The revamped area features a 60,000-square-meter linear park, including 12,000 square meters of new sidewalks. Vendors have been provided with freezers and appliances to enhance the sale of local products, such as fish, a regional highlight. Minister Collado emphasized plans to establish a board of trustees to ensure proper maintenance, with support from local economic groups like César Iglesias.
Additional upgrades include lighting, proper street signage, and covered exercise machines. To protect the new facilities, the area was militarized after early visitors caused minor damage. The Ministry of Tourism also announced plans to develop El Faro Beach nearby, further boosting the region’s appeal. Residents eagerly anticipate the inauguration, confident that the boardwalk will restore its charm and attract more visitors.
