MP and DNCD trace over 9.8 tons of cocaine in smuggling operation
Santo Domingo.- Special units of the Public Ministry are investigating the record-breaking seizure of 9,889 kilos of cocaine at the Caucedo Multimodal Port, carried out by the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) on December 5, 2024. The operation temporarily halted port activities to ensure the safety of investigators and secure the confiscated drugs.
The investigation reveals ties to a transnational criminal network operating across Central America, South America, the Caribbean, and Europe. Dominican authorities are collaborating with international partners, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), under bilateral agreements to combat organized crime effectively. Information sharing remains limited to protect the integrity of the case.
After forensic analysis by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF), the seized drugs were incinerated, with a sample preserved under strict legal protocols. The Public Ministry commended public understanding and emphasized its commitment to safeguarding investigations, as seen in previous anti-crime operations.
