MIREX publishes book on Dominican diplomacy in the Dominican-Haitian relationship
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) unveiled the book Dominican Diplomacy in the Face of the Haitian Crisis 2020-2024: Speeches and Other Key Writings, a comprehensive collection of official statements and positions addressing the evolving challenges in Dominican-Haitian relations. Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez presided over the event, emphasizing the book’s value in documenting the Dominican Republic’s foreign policy efforts during this critical period. The publication highlights the government’s commitment, under President Luis Abinader, to fostering peace and stability in Haiti, a matter of strategic importance for the Dominican Republic.
In his remarks, Minister Álvarez reiterated the country’s diplomatic priorities: supporting Haiti’s pacification, promoting conditions for free and fair elections, establishing a legitimate government, and advancing the nation’s development. He stressed the importance of strengthening the Multinational Mission for Security Support in Haiti (MSS) and advocated for its transformation into a United Nations-sanctioned Peace Force to address the security crisis caused by gang control in Haiti.
Anselmo Muñiz, MIREX’s Director of Strategic Studies and Analysis, presented the book, explaining that it organizes speeches by President Abinader and Minister Álvarez into chapters that detail key moments in the diplomatic strategy. Ambassador Aníbal de Castro praised the initiative, highlighting its meticulous structure and the insight it offers into the Dominican government’s diplomatic efforts. The event gathered ministers, diplomats, business leaders, academics, and media representatives, underscoring the significance of this work in reflecting the Dominican Republic’s approach to a pressing regional issue.
