Dominican Education Ministry ends teacher evaluation agreement with OEI
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Education (Minerd) has terminated Agreement No. C-0156/2024 with the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), initially signed on August 15, 2024, to support the Teacher Performance Evaluation for 2024-2025. The decision, reached by mutual consent, aims to enhance the evaluation process’s efficiency and responds to concerns raised by educational stakeholders, including the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP).
Minerd emphasized the importance of consensus to improve educational quality and reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the OEI on future initiatives. Despite the termination, the Ministry acknowledged the OEI’s valuable contributions to Dominican education. The ADP’s opposition to international involvement in teacher evaluations was a key factor in revising and ending the agreement.
Both parties agreed to release each other from any future liabilities under the agreement, ensuring no further claims or disputes. Moving forward, Minerd will collaborate with national stakeholders to design a transparent and community-aligned teacher evaluation process, reinforcing its dedication to improving educational standards.
