Dominican Republic and Jamaica sign agreement to enhance air connectivity
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic and Jamaica signed an air services agreement to enhance connectivity, promote trade, tourism, and security, while improving the efficiency of air transport between the two nations. The agreement complements the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation and includes provisions for overflight and landing rights, non-scheduled and multi-destination air transport, and strict safety measures.
Signed by Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and Jamaican Minister Daryl Vaz, the agreement allows both countries to designate airlines to operate agreed routes with flexible frequencies, capacities, and pricing. Minister Álvarez highlighted the agreement’s potential to boost tourism, generate jobs in hospitality, strengthen trade, attract foreign investment, and foster closer bilateral ties. Vaz praised the agreement as a milestone in the already strong relations between the two nations.
The event was attended by prominent officials, including Vice Ministers Hugo Fco. Rivera and Carlos de la Mota, Civil Aviation Board President Héctor Porcella, IDAC Director Igor Rodríguez Durán, Dominican Ambassador to Jamaica Angie Martínez, and Jamaican private sector leader Metry Seaga, among others. The agreement marks a significant step in advancing bilateral economic development and collaboration.
