Tragedy strikes Villa Juana neighborhood after building collapse
Santo Domingo.- A tragedy overshadowed the Flores family just days before Christmas Eve when 13-year-old Crisfarelis Flores lost her life in a building collapse on Juan Erazo Street in Villa Juana, Santo Domingo. Crisfarelis, who would have turned 14 on January 11, was playing with four other girls under an awning in front of an abandoned house when the structure partially collapsed. Two other girls, aged 8 and 12, were critically injured, while two escaped unharmed and alerted their families.
Emergency services transported the injured to local hospitals. Crisfarelis succumbed to severe head, spine, and body injuries at the Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital. The other victims, an 8-year-old with a head injury and a 12-year-old with a fractured leg and head trauma, remain hospitalized.
Neighbors revealed the house was used as a warehouse for construction materials and clothing, possibly stored improperly, which may have contributed to the collapse. The property owner has yet to address the grieving family, intensifying their anguish. Crisfarelis, remembered as a quiet and responsible first-year high school student, leaves behind a devastated mother, Farah Flores, who was working at the time of the accident.
