Migration stops bus carrying 70 Haitians in Azua

Azua.- The Dominican Republic Army detained 70 Haitian nationals with irregular immigration status early Friday morning in the province. The individuals were found on a white Hyundai bus driven by Edward Aquino.

In a separate operation at a checkpoint in Azua, Army personnel stopped a black Nissan Note driven by Yoan Figuereo Encarnación, accompanied by José David Gómez. The vehicle was carrying seven undocumented immigrants.

Both drivers and their companion will face prosecution for trafficking in undocumented persons, while the detained immigrants will be handed over to the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) for further processing.

How this bus got pass the western checkpoints before Azua opens a lot of questions? Can only suggest the bus was filled with small groups of travelers at a convenient intermediate location between the border and Azua, thus avoiding the normal checkpoints. However, it caught Army’s eye.
