Félix Bautista proposes creation of Ministry of Social Assistance

Santo Domingo.- A bill introduced by Senator Félix Bautista (FP-San Juan) seeks to establish the Ministry of Protection and Social Assistance to centralize and improve the management of social programs in the Dominican Republic. Submitted to the Senate on December 2, 2024, the proposal aligns with the Executive Branch’s ongoing reforms to streamline government operations and reduce spending by merging and eliminating redundant entities.
The proposed ministry aims to eliminate the overlap of functions and resources in the social sector, ensuring greater efficiency and effectiveness in delivering assistance programs. It would oversee the planning, coordination, and implementation of strategies to promote social inclusion, protect rights, and provide public assistance services.
The bill emphasizes efficient organization and administration of social resources while encouraging public participation in social welfare efforts. If approved, the ministry would join the Dominican Government’s existing 23 ministries, further advancing its reform agenda.
