Higüey — The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported yesterday that it will deploy 8,322 collaborators and volunteers to assist citizens who will travel to the Basilica of Higüey, La Altagracia, on the occasion of the Day of the Virgin of Altagracia, celebrated in the country every January 21.

A communication from the agency indicates that as of 2:00 p.m. on Monday, it will install a road prevention device to speed up the response to possible incidents. This operation will last until Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

From the Americas to Higüey

Juan Manuel Méndez García, director of the COE, also explained that the operation would extend from the Juan Carlos bridge on Las Américas Avenue to the Basilica of Higüey, including the road sections connecting the eastern provinces.

“During those two days, we will focus especially on the prevention of traffic accidents, so we call on the conscience of each citizen who will travel to Higüey to act prudently on the roads, ” said the COE director.

Méndez said that 98 ambulances will be distributed at strategic points, 321 aid posts will be installed in the Eastern region, and 02 field hospitals of the Red Cross and Civil Defense will be located within the Basilica area. A Mobile Command Center will also be enabled, which will have secondary command posts in each province of the area.

He added that the Ministry of Defense arranged a helicopter to support the operation by air.
