Patriotic Movement warns of risks from uncontrolled immigration
Santo Domingo.- The Patriotic Movement Save the Dominican Republic, led by Graciano Jiménez, has raised concerns about the risks of uncontrolled immigration, particularly the large-scale influx of Haitian migrants, citing the absence of an adequate legal framework. Speaking during a floral tribute at the Altar of the Fatherland to honor the 212th anniversary of Juan Pablo Duarte’s birth, Jiménez emphasized the growing threat posed by what he described as a “silent and growing invasion” along the border.
Jiménez highlighted that the nation’s resources are being depleted, and its ability to respond to the crisis is increasingly strained, threatening social stability and peace. He urged reflection on the nation’s current challenges, emphasizing the implications of the Haitian migration crisis for security, culture, and national identity. While acknowledging the humanitarian aspect of the issue, he underscored the need for firm measures to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and historical values.
Rejecting accusations of xenophobia, Jiménez framed the issue as one of survival and respect for national laws and identity. Quoting Duarte, he reminded Dominicans that the homeland is their shared home and must be defended with unity and resolve. He called on all sectors of society to unite in protecting the nation’s sovereignty, echoing Duarte’s vision of independence and preservation of core values.
*Sigh*
If there is one thing all Dominicans wish they could do is make the Haitian problem disappear with the snap of a finger. This was a problem created by France and now centuries later we have to deal with the consequences.
