Cuban Embassy honors José Martí with cultural event in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- The Cuban Embassy in the Dominican Republic hosted a cultural event celebrating peace and unity in Latin America and the Caribbean, paying tribute to José Martí on the 172nd anniversary of his birth. The ceremony took place at the José Martí monument in Santo Domingo.
Cuban Ambassador Ángel Arzuaga Reyes highlighted Martí’s enduring political legacy, recognizing him as a hero not only for Cuba but for Latin American independence. Educator and politician Luis de León emphasized Martí’s ties to the Dominican Republic, particularly his role in signing the Manifesto of Montecristi before joining Máximo Gómez in Cuba’s independence struggle.
The event gathered municipal authorities, educators, political figures, and solidarity activists, reaffirming Martí’s influence on regional unity and social justice.
