Port-au-Prince.- Armed gangs launched a violent attack on the commune of Kenscoff, east of Port-au-Prince, killing at least 20 civilians. In response, the Haitian National Police (PNH) engaged in a confrontation, killing around 20 gang members. The attackers, who had previously announced their plans on social media, came from Carrefour and targeted several towns, including Bellot, Goder, and Le Montcel.
Survivors described harrowing losses, with some families losing up to 12 members. Many residents were killed in their homes or while working in the fields. Dozens of houses were burned, forcing many to seek refuge at the town hall or sleep on the streets. Police operations continue in the area to locate armed individuals.
The attack has intensified calls for stronger government intervention. Displaced residents, including women and children, struggle with unsafe conditions, while local authorities face mounting pressure to restore order and security in the region.
