Inespre to expand low-cost food sales in 2025

Santo Domingo.- The National Institute for Price Stabilization (Inespre), under its new director David Herrera, will increase the number of producer markets and mobile warehouses to improve food accessibility across the Dominican Republic. This initiative aligns with presidential directives aimed at further reducing undernourishment nationwide.

According to FAO data, undernourishment in the country dropped from 8.3% in 2020 to 4.6% in 2023, benefiting nearly 500,000 families. Herrera described this 55% reduction as a major government achievement and expects further improvements in the upcoming FAO report.

As part of its expansion, Inespre will participate in “El Gobierno Contigo”, a government initiative designed to bring social assistance closer to communities. The institution will also enhance existing programs, including mobile food sales, supermarket combo offers, and participation in fairs, ensuring that food reaches more people efficiently.
