Solution to crisis in Haiti must be sought among themselves

The Youth of the National Unity Party (PUN) president, Omara Corporán, forcefully reaffirmed the defense of Dominican sovereignty and supported the recent statements of the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, on the Haitian issue.

According to Rubio, the solution to the crisis in Haiti lies with the elites of the Caribbean country, a position that the PUN applauds as a call for responsibility from the international community.

That is why the young politician urged other countries to assume a proactive and collaborative role in seeking sustainable solutions for Haiti based on mutual respect and cooperation. In Corporán’s words, “Only through a joint effort will we be able to guarantee stability in the region and preserve the pillars of justice, freedom and sovereignty that define the Dominican Republic.”

During the commemoration of the Month of the Homeland and the twenty-third anniversary of the PUN, when laying a wreath in the pantheon where the remains of the Dominican patricians rest, Corporán stressed that “our sovereignty is not negotiable. It is a source of pride that the U.S. government has decided not to push for the Dominican Republic to absorb a massive wave of Haitian migrants. This reaffirms the legitimacy of our migration policies and the unwavering commitment to the security and stability of our country.”

The young leader emphasized that, in a global context of uncertainties, the firmness and unity of the nation are essential to facing regional challenges. Echoing the legacy of the Founding Fathers—Juan Pablo Duarte, Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, and Ramón Matías Mella—Corporán recalled that independence is not a fact of the past but a daily responsibility of every Dominican.
