Inmate takes deputy director hostage at Higüey prison

Higüey, La Altagracia.- An inmate at the Anamuya Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Higüey briefly took the prison’s deputy director hostage during a live social media broadcast, claiming his life was in danger. He stated that his intention was not to harm the official but to secure his release from prison.

Prison authorities swiftly activated a mediation operation to ensure the safety of all involved and regain control of the facility. The Directorate General of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) confirmed that the situation has been resolved, and operations have returned to normal. The inmate, who also demanded a transfer to another prison, now faces disciplinary measures as security protocols are reinforced.
