Interior and Police to strengthen municipal security with mayors and governors

Santo Domingo.- Faride Raful, Minister of the Interior and Police, urged mayors and governors to collaborate with the National Police in ensuring security across their territories. Speaking at the “Meeting with Local Governments” at the Police Institute of Higher Education (IPES), she highlighted the positive impact of the Joint Task Force operations in reducing crime.

Raful emphasized that as of February 14, the homicide rate had dropped to 7.5 per 100,000 inhabitants, one of the lowest in the region. She also noted significant reductions in robberies, assaults, and other crimes, underscoring the importance of coordinated efforts for safer municipalities.

Deputy Attorney General Yeny Berenice Reynoso stressed the role of local leaders in security, affirming the Public Prosecutor’s Office commitment to cooperation. Municipal representatives Nelson Núñez (Fedomu) and Lionicito José Selcilie (Fedodim) proposed creating a working group to address security challenges in their districts.
