Minister of Culture announces March 23 Carnival Parade with over 5 million pesos in prizes

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Culture (MINC) has announced that the National Carnival Parade 2025 will take place on Sunday, March 23, along George Washington Avenue in Santo Domingo. The event, beginning at 2:00 p.m., will feature over 150 comparsas from across the country, competing for 5 million pesos in prizes across multiple categories. This year’s parade is dedicated to San Cristóbal in recognition of its rich cultural heritage and growing prominence in national carnival celebrations.

Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo made the announcement alongside key officials, emphasizing that the parade will be broadcast live on Más Roberto (Channel 11) at no cost. Luis Rivas, artist and designer, will serve as King of the Carnival, while Jatnna Tavárez, a well-known media personality, will be the Queen. Both were selected for the 2024 edition, which was suspended, and have been reaffirmed for this year.

The Felipe Abreu Award for Merit of the Dominican Carnival 2025 was awarded to Orlando Ysaias Lora Pacheco. Additionally, winners of the Annual Luis Días Dominican Carnival Music Award were announced: Alexis de Peña took first place with Pal Carnaval, Xiomara Fortuna secured second place with Truco de Carnaval, and Yohansy Rodríguez placed third with Carnaval Local.

The event will prioritize security and organization, ensuring a safe environment for families and spectators. The parade route will run from Presidente Vicini Burgos Street to Máximo Gómez Avenue, providing a vibrant showcase of Dominican culture, music, and traditions.
