Police arrest alleged fraudster linked to the fraudulent purchase of motorcycles in Santiago

Santiago — Agents of the National Police arrested a man in the province of Santiago de los Caballeros who was accused of multiple scams involving the fraudulent purchase of motorcycles in La Vega and other towns.

This is Cristofer Abreu, 19, who had an arrest warrant since December 2024 and was captured by agents of the Subdirectorate of Investigation (Dicrim).

One of the cases occurred on February 11, 2025, when a man sold his TVS Apache RTR 200 motorcycle for RD$135,000 after receiving a false bank transfer receipt.

Another similar event was recorded on February 19, when an alleged buyer, contacted through Facebook Marketplace, stole a Super Tucán ST250GY-C7 after requesting a test drive.

Investigations also link him to a scam on December 16, 2024, when a woman gave a Honda XR-650L to two individuals after receiving a fraudulent bank receipt.

Cristofer Abreu was transferred to La Vega to be placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The Police urge citizens to verify payments before delivering goods and to report fraud attempts.
