Dominican Republic proposes theme for 10th Summit of the Americas

Santo Domingo.- Vice Minister of Multilateral Foreign Policy Rubén Silié, serving as President of the Summit Implementation Review Group (SIRG), presented the Dominican Republic’s proposed theme for the 10th Summit of the Americas: “Building a Secure, Sustainable, and Shared-Prosperity Hemisphere.” The proposal, introduced during a meeting at the Organization of American States (OAS) headquarters in Washington, D.C., aims to shape the discussions and agreements for the upcoming hemispheric summit, which the country will host.

The Dominican Republic’s proposal focuses on four key pillars of human security: citizen security, food security, energy security, and water security. These priorities aim to enhance regional stability and sustainable development by addressing critical challenges such as violence, migration, transnational crime, and economic disparities. Silié emphasized that the summit offers a unique opportunity to strengthen cooperation, foster peace, and advance regional integration.

Representing Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, Silié underscored the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors to implement effective policies. The Dominican delegation included Ambassador Mayerlyn Cordero and advisors Emil Chireno and Richard Feinberg, while OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro led the OAS delegation. The negotiation process will continue in the coming months, culminating in the adoption of a final summit document.
