Yeni Berenice Reynoso appointed as Attorney General

Santo Domingo.- The National Council of the Judiciary has appointed Yeni Berenice Reynoso as Attorney General of the Dominican Republic, following a proposal by President Luis Abinader. Known for her firm stance against organized crime and corruption, Reynoso’s appointment reinforces her reputation as an unyielding and independent prosecutor.
Reynoso has steadily risen through the ranks of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, beginning as an assistant prosecutor in La Vega before leading offices in Santiago and the National District. Her leadership has been marked by high-profile cases, including Operation Octopus, Operation Coral, and the Medusa case, which targeted corruption networks and high-ranking officials. Her expertise in criminal investigations and cooperation with agencies like the FBI have cemented her as a leading force in Dominican justice.
Her appointment is widely regarded as a continuation of efforts to strengthen judicial independence, a process initiated under Miriam Germán Brito. However, her confrontational approach has sparked both admiration and resistance among political and business elites. Moving forward, her primary challenges will include ensuring continuity in anti-corruption cases, combating organized crime, and enhancing international cooperation. The Association of Dominican Prosecutors (FiscalDom) and the Institutionality and Justice Foundation (Finjus) have expressed support for her leadership, marking a pivotal moment for transparency and accountability in the Dominican justice system.
Great choice. She does not take sh*t from anyone. She enforces the laws.
