Senate opens First Ordinary Legislature of 2025

Santo Domingo.- The Senate of the Republic inaugurated its First Ordinary Legislature of 2025 on Thursday, in accordance with Article 89 of the Constitution, which mandates sessions to begin on February 27 and August 16 each year. Senate President Ricardo de los Santos led the proceedings, emphasizing the importance of legislative work during the 150-day session.

As part of the opening ceremony, de los Santos appointed three special commissions: one to welcome President Luis Abinader at the National Congress esplanade, another to receive him in the National Assembly hall, and a third to lay a floral wreath at the Altar of the Fatherland in honor of the 181st anniversary of National Independence. The session commenced with a 21-gun salute outside the National Congress as senators stood for the National Anthem.

The President of the Senate formally summoned lawmakers for the first ordinary session of the year, scheduled for March 2025 at 2:00 p.m.

hey – I’m visiting the DR for the first time in July. I like capital city stuff. I’m interested in tours of the legislature and the high court… and maybe even seeing one of those institutions in action. I also, I’m interested in historical tours and some inexpensive motorcycle options… but knowing who to contact and how to schedule a visit to legislature…. my name is Kenneth and I live in Pittsburgh. I bet you have a beat journalist I could follow around and take out to lunch. Whats app 412 512 1709
