Indian Commission and Onesvie assess critical infrastructure resilience in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- A mission from the Coalition for the Development of Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) met with Leonardo Reyes Madera, Director General of the National Office for Seismic Assessment and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie), to evaluate the condition of critical bridges and overpasses in the Dominican Republic. The team, accompanied by Onesvie engineers, conducted site inspections in Santo Domingo, La Vega, Santiago de los Caballeros, and San Pedro de Macorís to assess structural vulnerabilities and improve earthquake resilience.

Reyes Madera highlighted India’s support in strengthening Dominican infrastructure, emphasizing the need to improve resilience following the partial collapse of the February 27 and Máximo Gómez overpass in 2023. CDRI, an Indian-led initiative backed by the UK and US, continues to assist nations in mitigating climate change-related vulnerabilities in public infrastructure.
