New edition of “Amén de Mariposas” honors Mirabal sisters

Santo Domingo.- The Superintendency of Insurance (SIS) unveiled a special edition of “Amén de Mariposas”, a renowned poem by Pedro Mir, enriched with artwork by Dominican painters to honor the legacy of the Mirabal sisters.

Held in the Juan Bosch Auditorium of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña Library to mark International Women’s Day, the event gathered cultural, academic, and political figures. Superintendent of Insurance Julio César Valentín Jiminián, along with Minou Tavárez Mirabal and Celeste Mir, emphasized the poem’s historical significance and its message of freedom and justice. The edition features a cover by Elsa Núñez, whose painting Homage to the Mirabal Sisters pays tribute to these symbols of resistance.

The book also includes Minou Tavárez Mirabal’s essay “Twenty-Five Visions of a Day Called November,” enhancing the dialogue between art, poetry, and cultural identity. Copies were donated to the Hermanas Mirabal Museum, and artists contributing to the project were publicly recognized.
