Heavy security deployed in San Francisco de Macorís amid 48-hour strike

San Francisco de Macorís.-The San Francisco de Macorís province experienced a strong security presence on Tuesday in response to the 48-hour strike scheduled for March 25 and 26. Authorities increased both aerial and ground surveillance to maintain order and prevent potential unrest during the protest.

Since early morning, helicopters have flown overhead while police and military officers patrolled key areas, particularly those prone to riots during past protests. Checkpoints were set up at city entrances to monitor traffic and prevent vandalism.

The strike, organized by social and community groups, aims to pressure authorities for improvements in infrastructure and basic services in Duarte province. While commerce and transportation have faced some disruptions, the protest’s full impact is expected to unfold throughout the day. Authorities have urged citizens to stay calm and assured them of efforts to ensure public safety.
