Dominican government defends public order after Friusa protest

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding citizens’ rights and maintaining public order following the recent protest in Hoyo de Friusa, Punta Cana. Government spokesman Homero Figueroa emphasized that while the Constitution guarantees the right to peaceful protest, such demonstrations must occur within the legal framework and with prior agreements to ensure public safety.

Figueroa clarified that the march was authorized and the organizers followed the agreed-upon routes. However, some infiltrators breached these boundaries, leading to disruptions that required police intervention to restore order. He assured that the government remains attentive to public concerns, particularly regarding migration, which continues to be a key issue for many citizens.

The spokesperson also called for responsible handling of information, expressing concern that certain groups might misrepresent the events to further their own agendas. Figueroa stressed that the government will not allow legitimate causes to be exploited in ways that could disrupt the country’s stability, investment climate, and social peace.
