Flour industry calls for stronger sector support

Santo Domingo.- The Union of Medium and Small Flour Manufacturers (UMPIH) has called for greater collaboration among industry stakeholders, government authorities, and society to advance a stronger, more inclusive, and environmentally sustainable flour sector in the Dominican Republic.

UMPIH President Issachar Burgos made the statement in celebration of the organization’s 37th anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the national industry and promoting sustainable development. Since its founding on April 5, 1988, the UMPIH has played a key role in representing and defending the interests of medium and small flour producers, contributing to the local economy and enhancing production practices.

Burgos highlighted the organization’s ongoing efforts to improve competitiveness, product quality, and innovation. He also noted initiatives focused on workforce training, the adoption of new technologies, and sustainable production methods. Additionally, he emphasized the continued support of Cooproharina in ensuring that Dominican households receive high-quality flour-based products.
