JCE standardizes civil status certificates

Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has announced a major update to civil registry documentation through Resolution 9-2025, establishing a single standardized format for all civil status certificates. This change, which eliminates the previous “extract” and “inextensive” versions, will take effect on July 1, 2025.

Under the new system, certificates for birth, recognition, marriage, divorce, and death will be unified into one format, simplifying documentation both locally and internationally through the JCE’s Overseas Service Offices. The JCE emphasized that this measure will not affect the ID card renewal process.

The reform aims to reduce bureaucratic delays and improve service efficiency by eliminating confusion caused by the previously varied formats. Along with the new format, adjusted fees for these services will apply starting July 1:

  • Birth, recognition, marriage, divorce, and death certificates: RD$600 each

  • School certificates, ID-related certificates, and judicial certificates issued through the JCE’s Legal Consultancy: RD$0.00
