Santo Domingo.- Dominican coffee has reached a new milestone, with exports totaling US$41.1 million in 2024—a 106.6% increase over the previous year—thanks to national efforts to boost production and target international markets, especially Puerto Rico and the United States.
According to the Dominican Gastronomic Observatory (OGD), this growth reflects effective public policies that support agriculture and a cultural resurgence recognizing coffee as a symbol of national identity and quality. Between 2019 and 2023, coffee production grew by 68%, revitalizing the sector.
For the first time in years, the country exports more coffee than it imports. Notably, 76.9% of exported coffee in early 2025 was roasted and not decaffeinated, underscoring a focus on added value and local branding. Both ProDominicana and the OGD stress the importance of continuing to support agriculture as a strategic and cultural cornerstone of the Dominican economy.
It would be informative to know where the bulk of the coffee exports are going.
