Abinader transfers RD$658 million to Santiago City Council for development projects
Santiago, D.R.- President Luis Abinader announced on Sunday the start of three major projects in Santiago: the renovation of the historic Yaque Lodging Center, the construction of the Mirador del Yaque park in “Nueva York Chiquito,” and several sanitation initiatives. These works aim to modernize infrastructure, recover public spaces, and improve residents’ quality of life.
The renovation of the Yaque Lodging Center, Santiago’s main public market, will serve as a hub for small and medium-sized businesses and local farmers. Abinader stressed that the project responds to long-standing demands from citizens and will be designed through consensus, ensuring the inclusion of all business sectors.
The government has allocated RD$658 million from the recently approved supplementary budget to start the works, with about 70% destined for the Yaque Lodging Center and the rest for sanitation efforts, including the Gurabo ravine. If the bidding process advances as scheduled, the president projected the market’s transformation will be completed by early 2027.
