“Trinitarios” debuts at Santo Domingo International Book Fair

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic premiered its first historical animated series, “Trinitarios,” this Monday during the Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2025 (FILSD 2025). Directed by Luis Cepeda, the six-episode series uses motion capture and computer animation to depict the independence struggle and the founding of La Trinitaria, culminating in the February 27, 1844 proclamation. Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo highlighted the series’ role in making history engaging for children and young audiences. Screenings run from September 29 to October 3 at the National Library’s Frank Moya Pons Pavilion.

In parallel, the National Film Library is hosting a special FILSD 2025 program combining screenings, talks, and tours. Highlights include the “Emerging Voices” student short films, the outdoor “Cinemateca sobre Ruedas,” and a René Fortunato Retrospective honoring the late documentary filmmaker with key works on 20th-century Dominican political history. Other featured films explore topics from baseball’s global impact to historical narratives by Frank Moya Pons, alongside animated and fiction productions. The program aims to foster cultural reflection, preserve historical memory, and support new generations of filmmakers.
