Frente Amplio condemns exclusion of Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela from Summit of the Americas
Santo Domingo.- The Executive Committee of the Frente Amplio strongly criticized the Dominican government’s decision to exclude Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela from the 10th Summit of the Americas, scheduled for December in Punta Cana. The organization described the move as submission to U.S. interests and a betrayal of the Dominican Republic’s historic commitment to solidarity, sovereignty, and regional integration.
María Teresa Cabrera, president of the Frente Amplio, argued that excluding these nations contradicts the country’s tradition of mutual respect and self-determination. She recalled past instances, such as the 1965 invasion, when Latin American solidarity was crucial to defending Dominican independence. The party called on all popular, democratic, and progressive forces to speak out against the policy, labeling it exclusionary and counterproductive to hemispheric unity. Cabrera emphasized that the nation should lead by example in sovereignty and solidarity, not by subordinating itself to foreign influence.
