Police officers who killed five people in Santiago even took cell phones from witnesses “to destroy evidence,” according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

To obstruct the investigations and destroy evidence, the 11 police officers accused of voluntary homicide in La BarranquitaSantiago province, not only took the security camera videos from the businesses in the shopping center and the premises where the incident occurred.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in its request for coercive measures against the officers, on September 10, 2025, the day the alleged murders occurred, the officers also took the cell phones of civilians who recorded the events.

The document also indicates that the accused Yohandy Encarnación, Geyser Francisco Álvarez Rodríguez, Adrián Miguel Villalona Pineda, Alvaro Paredes Panlagua, who are assigned to the Department of Investigation of Organized Crime and Complex Cases of the National Police, in Santo Domingo, “went to the city of Santiago de los Caballeros to carry out an operation on the alleged case of arms trafficking that said department was carrying out.”

Once they arrived in Santiago, they went to the Regional Investigation Subdirectorate, National Police, in that city of Cibao, they met with the accused: Hansel Michel Cuevas Carrasco, Socrates Fidel Feliz Feliz, Hairo Mateo Morillo, Cesar Augusto Martinez Trinidad, Jose Octavio Jimenez Pena, members assigned to the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Santiago, specifically in the parking lot where the offices of the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Dicrim) are established to coordinate the ” operation .”

This operation was reported to witnesses as an operation against an alleged gang planning a robbery. “What a save,” some officers told several civilians after the incident, according to the prosecutor’s request.
