Santo Domingo.- Grupo Piñero’s Eco-Bahia Foundation was honored at the latest National Tourism Award for its impactful contributions to sustainable development, environmental conservation, and education within the Dominican Republic’s tourism sector. The award celebrates organizations that promote innovation, excellence, and responsible practices in tourism.
The recognition was received by Álex Matás, the Foundation’s director in the country, during a ceremony attended by political and business leaders, entrepreneurs, and representatives from tourism organizations. Matás highlighted the Foundation’s commitment to a tourism model that both enjoys and protects nature, stating, “Sustainability is the way to ensure the future of our ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.”
Since establishing operations in the Dominican Republic in 2023, building on over 25 years of experience in other destinations, the Eco-Bahia Foundation has implemented a responsible tourism model that integrates conservation, ecological restoration, and environmental education. Key initiatives include the protection of more than 1,700 sea turtle hatchlings, environmental awareness programs for thousands of children, youth, and visitors, and tourism experiences that actively engage travelers in conservation efforts. The Foundation has also developed ecosystem restoration projects and strategic partnerships with national institutions, reinforcing a model where tourism and sustainability progress together.
