Hurricane Melissa: only 4 provinces on red alert

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) maintains four provinces under red alert, twelve and the National District under yellow alert, and thirteen under green alert due to Hurricane Melissa, now classified as an intense hurricane with winds of 220 km/h, making it the fourth major hurricane of the current hurricane season.

Provinces under red alert 🔴:

  • Barahona

  • Pedernales

  • Independencia

  • Bahoruco

Provinces under yellow alert 🟡:

  • San José de Ocoa

  • Samaná

  • Dajabón

  • Azua

  • Monte Plata

  • Elías Piña

  • Peravia

  • La Altagracia

  • San Juan

  • Monte Cristi

  • Santo Domingo

  • San Cristóbal

  • National District

Provinces under green alert 🟢:

  • Monseñor Nouel

  • La Vega

  • Sánchez Ramírez

  • San Pedro de Macorís

  • La Romana

  • Hato Mayor

  • María Trinidad Sánchez

  • Santiago

  • Santiago Rodríguez

  • Hermanas Mirabal

  • Espaillat

  • El Seibo

  • Duarte

Authorities urge residents to avoid crossing rivers, streams, and creeks with high water levels in provinces under alert. Along the Caribbean coast, particularly from Cabo Beata (Pedernales) to Punta Salinas (Baní), operators of small and medium-sized boats are advised to remain in port due to strong winds and dangerous waves. The rest of the Caribbean coast may continue activities with caution.
