Government sends heavy equipment to restore farmlands affected by Storm Melissa
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Agriculture has mobilized heavy machinery and work crews to assist recovery efforts in the main farming zones impacted by Tropical Storm Melissa. The operation includes backhoes, bulldozers, mechanical shovels, and trucks for debris removal, as well as teams dedicated to pruning and clearing damaged areas to support affected producers.
Minister Limber Cruz also ordered a rapid assessment of damaged inter-parcel roads to ensure their prompt repair, aiming to prevent crop losses and guarantee that farmers can transport their products to market without delays.
These actions form part of the government’s ongoing strategy to safeguard national food supply and restore agricultural productivity. The storm, which later intensified into a Category 5 hurricane, caused indirect damage to farmlands in San Cristóbal, Peravia, San José de Ocoa, Barahona, Monte Plata, and other provinces still under evaluation.
