Migration Directorate launches night operations to reinforce immigration controls

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) announced the start of nighttime operations aimed at strengthening immigration controls across the Dominican Republic and supporting citizen security efforts.

According to an institutional statement, the initiative intensifies actions against foreigners residing irregularly in the country, particularly in high-traffic areas of the National District and Santo Domingo. The strategy includes the deployment of uniformed agents in visible patrols, organized into teams of seven members operating under the supervision of a coordinating officer to ensure adherence to protocols and respect for human rights.

These operations will be carried out daily, with greater intensity on weekends, when agents remain on duty until the early morning hours. The DGM reported that individuals found without proper documentation are transferred to immigration processing centers. Fixed observation points have also been established at traffic lights, motorcycle taxi stands, and other public areas where irregular activity or begging has been observed.

The agency noted that many reports originate from the 311 “User Assistance” line, which allows citizens to submit complaints or requests for intervention.
