Abinader leads parade in San Cristóbal honoring 181 years of the Dominican Constitution
San Cristóbal.- President Luis Abinader led the official ceremony in San Cristóbal to commemorate the 181st anniversary of the Dominican Republic’s first Constitution, reaffirming the country’s commitment to sovereignty, democracy, and institutional strength. The event featured a civic–military–police parade and the participation of hundreds of students from more than 90 local schools.
During the ceremony, Juan Pablo Uribe, president of the Permanent Commission of Patriotic Anniversaries (CPEP), emphasized the historic importance of the 1844 Constitution as the foundation of Dominican independence. He reflected on the evolution of constitutional values since that time, highlighting that today’s democratic principles remain strong.
Local authorities, including Governor Pura Casilla and Mayor Nelson de la Rosa, also underscored the pride of San Cristóbal as the birthplace of the Dominican Constitution. The event was attended by several ministers, military commanders, and senators, marking the day as a powerful tribute to the nation’s democratic legacy and civic unity.
